How to Keep Dogs Safe During Extreme Heat
With the right hydration and environmental control, almost any dog can survive the hot summer months, but some dogs will simply struggle more than others. Due to their smaller nasal passages, all snub-nosed or brachycephalic dogs have a tougher time controlling their body temperatures. Pugs, Boston terriers, and bulldogs are more sensitive to temperature increases.
Other dogs that need special attention during a heat wave include giant breed dogs as well as elderly, obese, or diabetic animals.
Parts of the UK are under an amber heat advisory from the Met Office that is in effect till Monday AM. We’re providing crucial advice to keep your dogs safe as the temperature rises.
Whether they are sleek or fluffy, most dogs can remain healthy and active in the heat as long as they have easy access to drinking water and cover from the sun.
